Pawâkan Macbeth – A Cree Reimagining of Shakespeare
Ages 14+ | Runtime: 90 mins (No intermission)
Doors open 1 hour before showtime
Akpik Theatre presents Pawâkan Macbeth — a powerful Indigenous reimagining of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, set in a time before colonization.
Written by Reneltta Arluk and inspired by stories from Elders and youth of Frog Lake First Nation (Treaty 6),
this unique performance blends Cree history, legend, and cosmology with Shakespeare’s dark tale of ambition and betrayal.
🌾 Set against the backdrop of alliances and warfare among the Plains Cree, Stoney Nakoda, and Blackfoot,
the play explores human vulnerability through the haunting presence of the Wihtiko — a spirit of greed and destruction.
Featuring dialogue in Plains Cree, Stoney Nakoda, and Michif, this 2025 tour deepens its cultural roots as it travels across Treaty 1 territory for the first time.
🎟️ Tickets:
Standard: $40.00
Student & Matinee: $20.00
(Includes GST and fees)
